NY agencies to consider Adirondack rail trail

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — State officials say they'll consider converting dilapidated train tracks into a recreational trail in the northeastern Adirondacks and look at options to bolster tourist train service at the southwestern end of the 119-mile-long rail corridor. The plan announced late Wednesday appears to be an attempt to strike a compromise between rail-trail advocates who envision a 90-mile biking, hiking and snowmobiling trail and railroad advocates who want to extend rail service. The departments of transportation and environmental conservation said they'll revisit the 1996 management plan for the state-owned rail corridor from Lake Placid to Remsen, near Utica.Read more on NewsOK.com
