A jury awarded a Dallas-area woman $73 million this week, determining that she suffered near-constant pain from a Massachusetts-based company's defective pelvic mesh device. This is the first judgment against Boston Scientific Corp., a medical device company facing 12,000 lawsuits over pelvic mesh products used for treatment of pelvic organ prolapse or urinary incontinence. "I hope manufacturers will realize the risks are just too great and there are safer alternatives out there," said Houston personal injury attorney David Matthews, who tried the lawsuit.
