After NFL star Adrian Peterson quickly and quietly posted bond early Saturday at the Montgomery County Jail, officials defended the grand jury's decision to pursue child abuse charges on what they consider to be "unreasonable discipline" of the running back's 4-year-old son. "[...] parents have a right to discipline their children, except when that discipline exceeds what the community thinks is reasonable," said Phil Grant, assistant district attorney in the county where the Minnesota Viking owns a $5 million house. Peterson is accused with recklessly causing bodily injury to his young son in May by hitting him on the backside with a switch as a form of punishment. Grant denied claims that prosecutors had "shopped" for a grand jury, seating a second when the first did not find cause to indict Peterson. [...] he added that the initial investigation was conducted by Houston police, who determined the incident had not happened in their jurisdiction and transferred the case to Montgomery County.
