The children of a bicyclist killed two weeks ago in what Houston police said was a hit-and-run involving a school bus have filed suit against both the driver and the bus company. "Defendant Booker knew that her large vehicle had impacted something while negotiating the turn through a protected crosswalk," the lawsuit says. In fleeing the scene, Booker exhibited "a willful and wanton disregard for the rights, welfare and safety of the cyclist Bobby Jack Brooks," the suit continues. In the suit, the adult children seek damages for Brooks's suffering during the accident, the financial burden incurred, and their losses resulting from their father's death. Brooks was a registered sex offender, having been convicted for possession of child pornography in 2007, according to Texas Department of Public Safety records.
