Comment on Tough to make a case against police in shootings

Colleges are considering suspensions and expulsions for students who vandalized campuses and committed violence over the last month. These consequences are entirely appropriate and overdue. School officials in North Carolina are even reallocating more funds to campus safety. What took so long? The answer may help prevent violent riots on campuses in the future. MIT officials recently announced they were suspending “dozens” of students who forced their way back into the area of campus where students had set up encampments.

Earlier this month at the Florida Democratic Party’s Leadership Blue fundraiser, the keynote delivered by Sen. John Fetterman, D-Penn., was interrupted by a young protester shouting “Free Palestine” and accusing those assembled of having “blood on your hands” given the party’s continued support for the Israeli assault on Gaza, which has so far killed upward of 35,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children. Video of the event picks up prominent Florida Democrats booing, staring expressionless, and then joining in a chant of “four more years,” apparently led by U.

I’ve often thought that if I were to write a book about modern politics, it would be titled “The Death of Shame.” The reason: We’ve entered an era where many politicians are no longer ashamed of behavior that would humiliate most decent souls. Still, every once in a while, politicians do something so bad, even they try to hide from their own acts. This past legislative session, that something was a new law that makes it illegal for Florida counties to guarantee basic workplace safety for outdoor workers who toil in extreme heat — like providing shade and water. Q: Ira, watching the NBA playoffs has been eye-opening. The way the game is played today is different than five years ago, let alone decades ago.  It’s no longer just about the stars.  Look at Nikola Jovic’s stat line from Denver’s loss –  34 points, 19 rebounds, 7 assist and a plus/minus of -9.  He was really held in check by constant double teams by quicker, far more athletic players that forced him into turnovers.  It often looked like Minnesota had six-plus players on the court.  For the Heat, Pat Riley made mention of how whale hunting would reduce the Heat’s talent.

MAGA Republican sycophants including Sens. Rick Scott, Tommy Tuberville and J. D. Vance; House Speaker Mike Johnson; U. S. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N. Y.; and others too numerous to name are the epitome of hypocrisy. They all showed up to kiss Donald Trump’s ring and bend over backward, kowtowing to him at his New York hush money/campaign finance trial.
