A record cranberry harvest has led a glut and driven down cranberry prices, so farmers asked the U.S. Department of Agriculture to step in and buy some. Instead, it's buying lots. Wisconsin Public Radio reports that the USDA will buy 68 million pounds of cranberries, which is good news for growers in the state, says Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association Executive Director Tom Lochner. Growers had asked the USDA for help as prices fell to 10 to 19 cents per pound.
