Amarillo City Council members voted Tuesday for preliminary approval of an amendment to city laws to immediately make the city the temporary custodian of any animal in the possession of the Animal Management and Welfare Department. The department’s advisory board voted Monday to send the measure to the city council for approval. An outbreak of distemper, and to a lesser degree parvo, makes the move a priority, Councilman Brian Eades said.
