Seattle police are stepping up patrols near a Rainier Beach elementary school Wednesday after shots were fired near the building early in the morning. Staff and students at Emerson Elementary’s preschool in the 9600 block of 60th Avenue South sheltered in place for a short time about 6:30 a.m. after someone called 911 to report hearing gunshots.
