U.S. officials in Sri Lanka Wednesday rejected the student visa application of an Afghan man who previously worked as an interpreter for a U.S. Army chaplain and who wanted to study in Houston. The U.S. official told Farhad his application was denied because he could not provide documentation guaranteeing his financial support during his American stay, the former chaplain said. Farhad, a Christian, was en route to a professional conference in Sri Lanka when the attackers opened fire and detonated a suicide bomb in the office of a California-based education charity at which he was employed.
