Comment on 'Annie' review: The magic's missing

After the phenomenal success of Greta Gerwig's Barbie in 2023, Mattel promised that a plethora of movies based on their IP would be hitting theaters in the coming years. One of those films is Matchbox, based on the iconic toy cars, and the project has just found it's director. According to Deadline, former Captain America stuntman, and Extraction director, Sam Hargrave will be overseeing the movie, which is being produced by Mattel Films and Skydance.

Following Logan in 2017, few fans expected to see Hugh Jackman return to the role of Wolverine, but Ryan Reynolds managed to persuade him to don the iconic yellow suit for Deadpool & Wolverine. The new movie brings them both to the MCU for the first time, following their previous tenures under the 20th Century Fox banner.

The world of Mad Max is growing with the upcoming release of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, but, according to director George Miller, it will likely be without Mel Gibson. Gibson appeared as the first iteration of George Miller's iconic post-apocalyptic survivor way back in 1979, and returned for two sequels: Mad Max 2 The Road Warrior (1981) and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985).

Considering that 2017’s “War for the Planet of the Apes” was a highly satisfying conclusion to the reboot trilogy of “Planet of the Apes” films, the makers of the new movie “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” were wise to set it in the same universe but far in the future. In theaters this week, this fourth modern entry — and the 10th overall, the larger franchise dating to the 1968 classic “Planet of the Apes” — makes several laudable choices.

On May 9, 1980, the world was first introduced to a group of unwitting camp counselors getting picked off one-by-one by a mysterious killer in Friday the 13th, and the horror genre has never been the same since. One of those camp counselors just happened to be an up-and-coming young actor by the name of Kevin Bacon, who was fresh off the success of appearing in National Lampoons Animal House.

In the wake of successes like Five Nights at Freddys, Legendary Entertainment has inked a deal to bring the popular survival horror video game Poppy Playtime to the big screen. In a move that saw the company beat out several other aggressive offers, the deal will see Legendary produce the project along with Don Murphy and Susan Montford of Angry Films.
