Magic in the Moonlight Slightly better than middling Woody Allen — not only for people who enjoy an annual visit to the Allen universe — this is the story of an arrogant master magician (Colin Firth) who goes to France to uncover an allegedly fake medium (Emma Stone). The Maze Runner Based on James Dashner’s 2009 novel for young adults, this sci-fi thriller about a dystopian society is best in the setup, which mixes an engaging adolescent fantasy with dashes of intrigue and menace. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The whole movie is overinflated, like watching an otherwise tolerable music video stretched to 101 minutes. The visual effects are solid, and the turtles are believable. There’s funny stuff here, of the Apatow school, but the big emotional moments often feel mawkish and manipulative.
