Local start-up business is really testing the waters

It was in the distressing days after the Jan. 9, 2014, leak into the Elk River of more than 10,000 gallons of chemicals from a Freedom Industries storage tank.West Virginia government officials, along with West Virginia American Water, initially downplayed the incident, but as hundreds of residents sought medical attention and the drinking water for more than 300,000 residents in nine counties was affected, it soon became clear that this was a major event.Halstead drove her young son out of town to stay with other family members so he wouldn't be harmed, she said.
