By Sheila Stogsdill, For The OklahomanThe donation of a used Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control vehicle to a rural police department often markedly increases police protection in many small towns. Over the past five years the state agency has donated 85 vehicles, many to small rural police departments, said Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control Director Darrell Weaver. This initially was a pet project Weaver had in his heart when he took over the agency in 2006. “I was raised in a rural community, and I witnessed law enforcement that did not have a lot of assets and frankly this stuck with me,” Weaver said.
