Mayor wants 50K homes built in 10 years; taxes likely to go up to fund them

Mayor Ed Murray is directing a housing advisory panel to “develop specific proposals” to build and preserve 50,000 new housing units over the next 10 years within the city limits. The increase in income-restricted affordable housing units is a near-tripling of what Seattle does now.  Currently, income-restricted affordable housing is being built at a rate of 700 units each year.
