Los Angeles enacts $15-an-hour minimum wage: Five West Coast cities have acted

Los Angeles, America’s second-largest city, voted to approve a phased-in $15 minimum wage Tuesday that will fully take effect by July of 2020. Seattle Mayor Ed Murray and U.S. Labor Sec. Tom Perez celebrate as the city’s phased-in, $15-an-hour minimum wage takes effect. The 14-1 vote by the Los Angeles City Council makes the “City of Angeles” the fifth West Coast city to enact its own minimum wage.  Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles have opted for $15 an hour, while Oakland has chosen $12.25 an hour and San Diego $11.50.
