Parent threatened elementary school custodian with knife, police say

Victor Castillo, 34. Police say an Albuquerque parent threatened an elementary school custodian with a knife in a crowded cafeteria during end-of-school activities Thursday. Victor Castillo, 34, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawfully carrying a deadly weapon on school grounds. Police were called to Hawthorne Elementary School near Copper and Eubank, where the school’s custodian told officers the cafeteria was crowded with kids and parents for end-of-school activities. The custodian was moving some partitions because of the crowd, when Castillo said “Watch out for my kids,” according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court. The custodian said “Excuse me,” and Castillo pulled a knife out of his pocket and held it by his side as if he was going to stab the custodian, according to the complaint. “(The custodian) asked (Castillo) if he was going to cut him here with all these people present,” an officer wrote in the complaint.
