New Oklahoma law caps damages awarded to hurt worker

BY KYLE SCHWAB Staff Writer kschwab@oklahoman.comA jury last month awarded millions in damages to an oil rig manager who lost his arm because of a 2012 crane accident, but an Oklahoma law the jurors were unaware of reduced the verdict dramatically. The unusual outcome, caused by a tort reform law that went into effect in 2011, is believed by the judge who presided over the case to be a first in Oklahoma County District Court.
