Rare sea turtle rescued on Tybee

An injured sea turtle rescued on Tybee Island on Tuesday is being treated at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center after apparently being struck by a boat. A family kayaking in the surf at the 19th Street beach discovered the Kemp’s ridley turtle around 4 p.m. and alerted the lifeguard who brought Chantal Audran, curator at the Tybee Island Marine Science Center, to the scene. Kemp’s ridleys are the smallest and rarest of the marine turtles, growing to about 100 pounds and 2 feet long.
