Nova Star ferry secures winter route in Europe

The operator of the Nova Star ferry has secured a winter route for the vessel in Europe, a move that is expected to make the service between Maine and Nova Scotia more economically viable. Beginning Nov. 1, the Nova Star will offer service between England and France three times per day, the operator, Nova Star Cruises, announced Tuesday. The ferry service is in its second season transporting passengers and freight between Portland, Maine, and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The winter route will give the company much-needed income during the offseason, and it will also allow the ferry company to market the service between Maine and Nova Scotia, said Mark Amundsen, president and CEO of Nova Star Cruises. “With our passenger counts steadily increasing this year and a new route for the offseason, we are much closer to achieving the goal of managing Nova Star Cruises as a successful business operation,” he said in a statement. Nova Star will end its Portland-Yarmouth service for the season on Oct.
