Nuclear regulators ramp up oversight of Pilgrim power plant

BOSTON (AP) — Federal inspectors say they're increasing their oversight of the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth. Officials from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission say the decision to ramp up inspections stems from a winter storm-related shutdown at the Entergy-owned plant last January and involves the facility's safety relief valves. The agency said Wednesday that the inspections will look at the company's own evaluation of the problem and will also study the company's review of whether the issue could have extended to other equipment or systems. The inspection will also review any corrective actions carried out by plant owners. A spokesman for Entergy said the company will consider what actions they need to take to return Pilgrim to normal NRC oversight and is confident that Pilgrim continues to be a safely operated plant.Read more on NewsOK.com
