NY Senate requiring proof for Albany travel expenses

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The New York Senate's travel reimbursement policy for its 63 members now specifies documenting their presence in Albany to collect $172 per diems for lodging, meals and incidentals. The policy, which took effect June 29 after the Legislature left Albany for the year, followed requirements enacted in the budget for the fiscal year that began in April. A similar policy for the 150 members of the Assembly was established in May. The Senate policy says lawmakers can swipe state identification cards at a machine in the Legislative Office Building or have their presence recorded by the journal clerk's office. Alternatively, they can show Thruway toll or train receipts, hotel and restaurant receipts, press clippings or individual Senate calendar entries. Ex-Assemblyman William Scarborough of Queens recently admitted submitting $40,000 in false expense vouchers over four years.Read more on NewsOK.com
