PARADISE ISLANDS, Bahamas — The setting, the weather and the time of year may have been all wrong for the UConn-Syracuse game, but when the old Big East rivals met in the Bahamas on Thanksgiving Day, they produced an old-time thriller. The results, though, were right only for Syracuse, which overcame an early deficit; they fought off a UConn rally to win, 79-76 in the semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis. It’s rare for a true college basketball atmosphere to materialize in these exotic locales, in ballrooms-turned-arenas, but the fans of both teams turned out in force, the 4,000 seats about 50-50, and it was UConn-Syracuse all over again. The Orangemen’s famous zone defense forced UConn out of its offensive rhythm, late in the first half, and early in the second, and they built a 10-point lead with less than seven minutes to play.
