Kosher meals, unsecured chapel gets chaplain fired from Anamosa prison

ANAMOSA — Bringing kosher packaged meals to an inmate observing Passover was among the factors in the firing of the longtime chaplain of a medium and maximum-security prison this fall.Richard L. Jenkins also failed to lock the prison chapel at the Anamosa State Penitentiary, didn’t report a missing butane lighter given to an inmate for ceremonial candles, and left his file cabinet open, according to state records released Monday as part of an unemployment insurance decision.Warden William Sperfslage fired Jenkins Oct.
