In Obama's final year, Senate is slow to act on his nominees

By contrast, Obama's choices for several other government positions are being held up, including his picks for commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, high-level positions at the State and Treasury departments, ambassadors in 10 countries and myriad other posts. Delaying the president's nominees gives the candidates who are running to replace him or for re-election a chance to score political points.
