Chairman: Kent school board won’t discuss arming teachers

Cortese, in a statement, condemned the selectmen’s 2-1 vote this week to recommend the “FASTER Saves Lives” program, which took place before the program was discussed with school district officials. Selectmen Jeffrey Parkin, who proposed adoption of the program, said Friday the selectmen did not intend to pre-empt the school board’s authority, but only to suggest it as a measure that warrants consideration. School superintendents in two rural Ohio communities contacted Thursday by The News-Times strongly endorsed the program, which they said enhanced the sense of security in their schools.
