Before last year, Zika virus outbreaks had occurred only in areas of Africa, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In the most recent outbreaks, officials have had a growing concern about whether Zika virus is having an impact on pregnant women and their babies.
