Hampshire County Sheriff calls it a career after 32 years

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. — The longtime sheriff of Hampshire County Sheriff has announced that he won't seek re-election in November after 32 years on the job.Robert Garvey released a brief statement on Monday announcing his decision.The 78-year-old Garvey said that everyone knows when their time has come and he "should spend some time with my wife before I pack it in."The longtime Amherst resident was appointed sheriff by then-Gov.
