VIDEO: Boxborough Police Lt. Warren O'Brien warns of tax scams

The IRS is warning taxpayers about tax-related scams that are becoming increasingly common. In 2013, the IRS paid out $5.8 billion in fraudulent refunds, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office. In one common scam, identity thieves use stolen Social Security numbers to file tax returns under the victim's name.
