Flannery O'Connor's birth observed with parade of odd characters, street fair

This year, prolific author and Savannah native Flannery O’Connor’s brand of Southern eccentricity was marked by dancing O’Connor doppelgangers, “Chicken Bingo” and a very excited individual in a gorilla suit. For the last four years, the Flannery O’Connor Parade and Street Fair has celebrated the author’s birthday in Lafayette Square. Technically, O’Connor’s birthday is March 25, but this year the celebration was a bit delayed since the date fell on Easter weekend. The growing event is hosted by the Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home, a museum facing the square.
