SF study: Many who take pain meds should have overdose antidote on hand

Doctors should consider prescribing naloxone — a drug to counteract opioid overdoses — alongside narcotic pain medications to patients who have been taking high dose of the drugs for a long time and may not realize their risk of overdosing, according to a study released Monday by San Francisco’s public health agency.
