Stopping Kush: City pledges to beef up police presence in parks, downtown

A week after more than a dozen people overdosed while smoking synthetic cannibanoids at Hermann Park, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner pledged to bulk up police presence in city parks and other "hot spots" in key areas of the city. "Several parks, the downtown library, METRO rail stations and other areas are being taken over by drug users," Turner said, at a press conference at Hermann Park, announcing that 175 police officers would be moving from desk jobs or other postings to beat patrols.
