One thing is sure about Texas Tech University’s new president, Lawrence Schovanec: He loves Lubbock. He first came to the college town in 1982 as a professor of mathematics and has climbed the ranks at Tech ever since. When asked why he has stayed, he cited the spirit of the campus and the West Texas atmosphere.
