SMU has had plenty of close losses to quality teams in coach Chad Morris' two seasons.Last year the Mustangs hung tough with top-five teams Baylor and TCU only to have their confidence shattered in a humiliating loss to James Madison. They flashed similar positivity against those Big 12 opponents this season. But the quest continues for that big statement victory, the kind that sparks momentum in a growing program. The Mustangs (2-2) at least enter Saturday's American Athletic Conference opener at Temple (2-2) with two things in their favor -- they have already matched last year's victory total and they aren't carrying the baggage of an embarrassing loss. They also have a defense that looks more polished and less prone to surrendering big plays.
