This Woman Created Her Own Emoji for Senior Citizens

After feeling that the current emoji offerings didn’t accurately represent her life, a UK woman took it upon herself to make emoji with mature folks in mind. The 56-year-old Diane Hill came up with the idea to create emoji that would reflect the range of experiences that senior citizens have — from back pain to impaired eyesight. She then recruited local artist Chris Oxenbury to design her emoji suggestions, which she then sent to Unicode Consortium to be approved for the next round of emoji updates. In an interview with the BBC, Hill explained it thusly: “I need something that shows pain because my back hurts, my knees hurt and I need emojis with glasses,” she said.
