Kent Stark Conference Center was the scene of the seventh annual Refuge of Hope Holiday Gala Friday evening. Development Director Jo Ann Carpenter said the event benefits the only shelter for homeless men in Stark County and also serves hot meals for men, women and children.Mickey Lawver, president of the board, said the shelter provides beds for 50 men and serves 300 meals daily.“We don’t leave anyone on the street if they don’t choose to be there,” she said as she enjoyed the event with her husband, Ted.Photographer Mark Biss was assisted by Holly Queen as they took photos of guests in a beautiful Christmas setting.Jill Zernechel and Dwinda Willis offered decorative plates, designed by artist Tim Eakin, that guests could personalize with their own message.
