Rockies’ pitching prospect Jeff Hoffman optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque

The Colorado Rockies on Thursday optioned right-handed pitching prospect Jeff Hoffman to Triple-A Albuquerque. The 24-year-old hurler acquired in the Troy Tulowitzki trade in 2015 had been in the running to make the Rockies rotation, or possibly grab a bullpen slot, coming out of spring training. Hoffman pitched 5 2/3 innings in the Cactus League this spring, posting a 4.76 ERA, striking out four and walking two, while allowing nearly two baserunners per inning (1.94 WHIP). The move leaves the Rockies with 44 players in major league camp, including 11 non-roster invitees.
