Colorado Springs police playing catch up with plan to hire dozens of officers

Feeling the pressure from being understaffed, the Colorado Springs Police Department is looking to hire more officers. The department plans to hire 60 to 62 officers for the March 2018 Police Academy, according to a news release from the department. An open application period will begin April 24 and end June 13. The additional officers will help the department "catch up with how fast the city is growing" and reduce response times, said Officer Nick Ryland, agency's recruiter.
