Giants lose two in a row, fall 11 games out of first

On a blustery 52-degree night that made Wrigley Field feel like Candlestick, the Giants forged a two-game losing streak for the first time since May 8-9 in New York. With the Giants down 5-2, Mac Williamson, who entered the game hitting .167, ended the team's streak of consecutive solo homers at 19 when he hit an opposite-field shot on the 12th pitch of his at-bat against closer Wade Davis, who had not allowed an earned run all year. Eduardo Nuñez, who appeared to tweak his right leg on an earlier baserunning play, was jogging home so slowly on the homer that Williamson nearly passed him between third and home. The Giants got the tying run to second base with two outs, but the game ended with a called third strike to Joe Panik that easily could have been ball four. Matt Moore faced the Cubs for the first time since his stellar eight innings in Game 4 of the Division Series at AT&T Park and pitched a decent game, down 3-2 going into the seventh, two of Chicago's runs coming on Anthony Rizzo solo homers. Moore was charged with an unearned run in the seventh after he allowed the first two runners to reach. Moore's line almost took a real beating in the sixth inning, when Jason Heyward blasted what would have been a three-run homer on most nights, but an 18-mph wind blew it foul. Denard Span homered in his second at-bat back from a thumb sprain and Brandon Crawford doubled to start a scoring rally. The Cubs extended the Giants an invitation to come back with two walks after a Michael Morse pinch single in the seventh, which loaded the bases for Crawford with two outs. Crawford, starting to heat up, hit a leadoff double in the second off Kyle Hendricks and scored on a Christian Arroyo groundout after Nuñez's perfect push bunt went for a single.
