S.F. supervisors reappoint Petra DeJesus to Police Commission

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors on Tuesday reappointed longtime city police commissioner Petra DeJesus, rejecting Supervisor Ahsha Safai’s controversial bid to replace her with a political ally. DeJesus is an attorney who served for 10 years on the seven-member body, which sets police department policy and conducts disciplinary hearings. An entrenched progressive, she is known for taking a hard stance against Tasers, and for working to curb racial profiling, use of force, and implicit bias among San Francisco police officers. “San Francisco needs experienced, independent commissioners who can hold officers accountable while ensuring safety for all residents,” said Supervisor Hillary Ronen, who endorsed DeJesus’ reappointment.
