LEAP in New Haven brings reading home for kids, fights the 'summer slide'

NEW HAVEN >> It's known as the "summer slide": when school is not in session, children who do not stay engaged with reading often fall behind and lose literacy achievements they had made throughout the school year. The phenomenon, which has a larger impact on lower-income students who lack the same resources as their wealthier peers, exacerbates the reading achievement gap.
