State auditor says recorder’s office may have violated county’s anti-nepotism rules

Salt Lake County attorneys are studying how to keep the recorder’s office running as the county Republican Party works to find a replacement for outgoing Recorder Gary Ott, whose court-approved resignation takes effect Tuesday. The action follows a review released Monday by State Auditor John Dougall, who questioned whether Ott’s deputy had authority to make financial decisions for the office before the county Republican Party chooses a replacement who will serve until the 2018 election.
