Grocery chain Aldi, which currently has about 1,700 stores in the United States, plans to open 800 more by 2022. Aldi, which started off as a small food store in Germany in the early 1900s, opened its first US location opened in southeastern Iowa in 1976. In addition, the chain has also pledged $5 billion to renovate existing stores.
