Union's James Mitchell and Jeb Stidham earn VHSL Class 2 first team All-State football honors

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - JaVon Scruggs from Appomattox was named the Virginia High School League Class 2 defensive player of the year on Thursday. Scruggs led the Raiders to their third-straight state football title last weekend. Jayden Williams from R.E. Lee-Staunton was named the offensive player of the year. Doug Smith from Appomattox was selected the Class 2 coach of the year. Union’s James Mitchell was named first team tight end and also was selected as a first team defensive back and punt returner. The Bears’ Jeb Stidham was a first team selection as a defensive lineman. Virginia High School League Class 2 All-State Football Teams Offensive Player of the Year Jayden Williams, R.E.
