CORTEZ — The Bureau of Land Management’s Tres Rios Field Office has decided to expand a nationally recognized mountain bike trail system outside of Cortez. The Cortez Journal reports the BLM said Wednesday that it will add 22.5 miles (36 kilometers) of sustainable single track, non-motorized trails to Phil’s World along with two new trailheads and parking areas. Officials say the new trails will be far enough to protect the nest of a golden eagle, a federally protected species.
