Pay raise means Oklahoma teachers would earn 'a lot more' than college instructors

By K.S. McNutt Staff Writer kmcnutt@oklahoman.comA pay increase for Oklahoma K-12 teachers could have a negative impact on the state's public two-year colleges. The Oklahoma Education Association is demanding a $10,000 pay raise for teachers over three years. "If the public schools get the pay raise, they'll be making a lot more money than my folks will," said Jack Bryant, president of Redlands Community College in El Reno. The base salary for instructors is $40,000 at Redlands and as low as $37,000 at some two-year colleges, Bryant said. He supports a pay raise for schoolteachers, but said college faculty should get one, too.
