You have a right to defend yourself if you’re attacked or reasonably believe you’re about to be.The right isn’t absolute, but if there is evidence of self-defense in a criminal trial, a jury has to be instructed on it before they decide a defendant’s fate.That’s how we ended up in a strange situation in which a cop-killer got, in some respect, a slap on the wrist.
