Meg Salyer plans to retire after 10 years representing Ward 6 on the Oklahoma City Council

By William CrumWard 6 Oklahoma City Councilwoman Meg Salyer says she is retiring when her current term ends next year.Salyer first was elected in November 2008 and won re-election in 2011 and 2015.She is president of Accel Financial Staffing, which focuses on placement of finance and accounting professionals.The firm's offices are in Automobile Alley downtown.Ward 6 is the city's truest urban ward, including much of downtown, historic neighborhoods just north of the central business district and up-and-coming Hispanic neighborhoods south of the Oklahoma River.The ward is bordered by NW 23 on the north and stretches to SW 59 on the south.Salyer said voters' passage of last year's MAPS for streets sales tax extension, bond package, and public safety sales tax increase were factors in her decision.She waited to announce her plans until after the council's vote Tuesday to include Sunday bus service in the 2018-19 budget.She said Wednesday the time was right to make way for new ideas.Read more on NewsOK.com
