McHenry couple faces child endangerment charges after kids left unsupervised, police say

A man and woman appeared in McHenry County court Wednesday on child endangerment charges after police said they left two children unsupervised in a home the city later deemed “uninhabitable.” Nicole A. Vaxmonsky and Michael J. Picard remained at the McHenry County Jail on Wednesday evening on $1,500 bonds. Criminal complaints state that 28-year-old Vaxmonsky was “heavily intoxicated” Sunday when she left the house, where the children were asleep. A passer-by saw Vaxmonsky lying on the side of the road not far from her home in the 2000 block of Central Street, McHenry, and called the police, McHenry Deputy Chief Thomas Walsh said. Vaxmonsky was taken to Centegra Hospital – McHenry “due to her level of intoxication,” according to the criminal complaint. When officers learned Vaxmonsky had two children younger than 10 years old, they went to her home for a well-being check.
