Kavanaugh nomination: Bob Casey wants FBI investigation; Pat Toomey wants a hearing and a vote

Pennsylvania's Democratic and Republican senators illustrated the split over Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh Friday. Democrat Bob Casey called for an FBI investigation into accusations of sexual assault, while Republican Pat Toomey urged a public Senate hearing followed by a prompt vote. Neither showed much hint that either step might change their views on Kavanaugh. Neither offered much hint that they would change views on the nominee, who could cement a conservative majority of the court if he is confirmed by the Senate. Casey, a Democrat who announced his opposition to any of President Trump's potential Supreme Court nominees even before Kavanaugh was named as the choice, said the FBI should look into a claim that the judge groped a woman, pinned her down and covered her mouth when she tried to scream at a high school party decades ago.
