20-year Winchester tradition encourages reading by making literature and authors 'real'

Author and illustrator Ruth Chan drew squiggles and shapes on the whiteboard as Ambrose Elementary kindergartens watched in awe. Then she asked the students to imagine if those shapes could become actual objects or figures. The board turned into a whimsical collage of animals doing fantastical things -- for instance, an elephant standing on a balloon.“This unlocks their creativity,” said Chan.
